Review: function of beauty shampoo & conditioner

Before I delve into this review, I’d like to mention that I finally found a shampoo for my dandruff that’s affordable: Nizoral Anti Dandruff shampoo – 7 fl oz ($14). SO FRIKIN HAPPY that I found something that gives me continual relief!!! Been using it every 3 to 4 days for a month so far and my scalp has been so happy. I let go of the Aveda Scalp Benefits shampoo ($23 for 8.5 oz ) and Scalp Remedy solution ($30 for 4.2 oz ) to save money. They helped me but it was always temporary. I also stopped using the Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Rejuvenate Bourbon Manuka Honey Shampoo and Conditioner because as lovely as it smelled, I kept getting more build up, lol. The Nizoral smells alright but thanks to the function of beauty set I bought, it overlaps the Nizoral scent with a lovely botanical scent.

Anywho, let’s start the review. I can thank my leap of faith for trying this to Safiya Nygaard. She had tried out the custom shampoo and conditioner by functionofbeauty herself and showed the results. Just to note though, I chose a 16 oz bottle set for $49. Compared to my previous product routine, I’m saving money with this. Below is a picture of the box the bottles come in. Fun fact, you get to name your own custom shampoo and conditioner. I named mine guusfraba, lol (Anger Management movie reference.)

The customizing starts with a quiz you answer on www.functionofbeauty.com. You tell it what type of hair you have, it’s structure, and whether it’s dry, normal, or oily. Then you get sent to a page to chose what attributes to give the shampoo and conditioner.

You can only choose 5. I chose: Hydrate, Nourish Roots, Strengthen, Shine and Sooth Scalp. Each one explains what it does exactly and then you can choose a scent. I had chosen the scent Safiya had used but I kind of wish I went with pear, lol. Tea tree oil and eucalyptus is nice and all but I love fruit smells. You also can choose the color you want for the liquids inside. I opted to keep them clear.

The package comes with the shampoo, conditioner, cute stickers and a little pamphlet that explains how to use the two products and reminds me what attributes I had chosen and their descriptions. Both products seemed to tingle on my scalp but it was nice. After a week of using it and alternating with the Nizoral, my scalp reached nirvana. No build up, no dandruff, and no more endless scratching that causes cuts on my scalp.

Another interesting thing about using these products is that my hair seems to like it more when I use the Nizoral shampoo and my guusfraba conditioner than when I use the guusfraba shampoo and conditioner together. It appears to hold in the hydration better when I use the Nizoral shampoo and guusfraba conditioner and it’s less prone to become frizzy too. Don’t know why this happens but I like it, haha.

This also kind of means I don’t always use the guusfraba shampoo as often. But it’s okay because my husband got curious and decided to try guufraba shampoo and conditioner. Now he’s hooked. He said they make his scalp feel like it’s breathing. 🙂

The next time I make an order, I plan on trying a different scent and possibly switching out an attribute to try a new one and see how that reacts to my hair.

Sincerely,
Jenn
